I believe it could have been a fictitious narrative or dream brought to life where he struggled within him self and with giving up of his own self will and finally submitting to the will of the Father. Do I believe he could have fought with the thoughts of God and where to choose right? Sure I do..Do I believe his name could have changed. Sure..lots of names in the bible were changed and revealed in the bible. John 6:46 No one has seen the Father except the one and only Son.. and in verse: John 6:30, I and the Father are one..and John 14:9, YOU'VE seen Me you have seen the Father..so that rather excludes the fact that it could have been God him self or His Son. Now there is no proverb or verse about entertaining "angels" but in Hebrews 13:2, says: "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares." So I believe this alludes I believe to when Isaac was met with strangers about the foreshadowing of Isaac.. and the hip going out of socket..he could have had a troubled dream or a revealing vision in his dream and fought and he could have slipped in anything during the night and it got out of socket..but I definitely believe all things work out for His glory and revealing and was used as an eye opener for Jacob, aka Israel to change his mind, will, and emotions. .Glory be to God!!
Hillbilly Pat commented on 'January 12th Chronological Bible Readings'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341c5ebf53ef01b7c9448738970b2018-01-12T13:10:23Z2018-01-18T00:52:30ZHillbilly PatI definitely think that Jacob was wrestling with an angel sent by God. I also think that the angel was following God's instruction as to whether it was to win or lose the battle. Why? Because God was in control then just as He is in control now. How wonderful it is to know that whatever problem we are wresting with in our life that we can rest assured that God is with us during the struggle. It is life not God that puts problems on us but God will always be with us as we handle the struggles of life.
