As I read today’s passage I immediately thought about one of David’s Psalms, the second one to be exact.

1 Why do the nations rage?
Why do the people waste their time with futile plans?

2 The kings of the earth prepare for battle;
the rulers plot together against the LORD
and against his anointed one.

3 "Let us break their chains," they cry,
"and free ourselves from this slavery."

4 But the one who rules in heaven laughs.
The Lord scoffs at them.

Why do we fight against God and His people? It’s a futile act and will only lead to our destruction.
