God bless,

Today's readings in Amos remind me of our world today. There has been devestation, destruction and all manner of "natural" disaster. There has been war, rumour of war, earthquake, famine and pestilence. Still, the world has not turned to God.
Father in Heaven, forgive us. Draw us to You. I repent for my sins and those of my fellow believers. Forgive us for not believing You. Please, O God, hear from heaven and send revival to our land. Revival in body, soul and spirit. Make us like you.

Amos 5:13 Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time.
I find Amos 5:13 to be a curious verse of scripture. There are many in the Church today who argue against a literal translation of the Bible and taken out of context of the book of Amos, or for that matter the whole Bible in its entirety, this verse might seem to support such thought. But does the Lord truly direct His Church to keep a blind eye and maintain their silence in the midst of social injustice and corrupt religion? No way. The Lord always directs us to speak out for His righteousness and truth. I believe this verse simply describes acts of ‘culturally accepted worldly wisdom’ which are contrary to righteousness and the Lord’s desire. I believe this view is supported in the verses immediately following.
Amos 5:14 Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the LORD God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is. 15 Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts. Perhaps the LORD God Almighty will have mercy on the remnant of Joseph.
