Terribly sad verses regarding King Ahaz today. The Lord disciplined King Ahaz for his sin. But rather than respond in humility with a repentant heart as did Judah whom King Ahaz had caused to sin, King Ahaz responded with increasing wickedness, seemingly arrogance and smugness aimed directly at the Lord by disfiguring His temple. In these acts, King Ahaz blasphemes the Lord and thereafter his heart and outward manifestations of sin darken considerably. Later the king’s distress increases even more and he responds with ever increasing blasphemy, his heart growing ever more hardened and his misery ever increasing. It doesn’t seem to get any worse than this.
